Can I bring my pet to First Night Alexandria?
First Night Alexandria is for people of all ages. Unless this pet is aiding the handicapped, it cannot attend.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes, online admission sales take credit cards (Visa, Master Card and Discover). On 12/31 you can use credit cards or Cash for last minute purchases at the Alexandria Visitor Center (221 King Street, 10:00 am-10:00 pm), while supplies last.
Where can I get admission badges?
We encourage you to make your purchase online in advance (UNTIL DECEMBER 13th) and your badge will be mailed to you. This is will enable you to go directly to your first choice of entertainment on the event night.

- Visitor Center will not sell Got Talent or Variety Showcase Tickets – purchase online or onsite at the venues on the day of the event
On December 31 you can purchase onsite at the Visitor Center 221 King St. from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm, at the Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St. from noon until 8:00 pm and at the GW Masonic Temple from 6:30pm – 10:00pm. Tickets on 12/31 will be $36.50 (includes all fees).

What can we do with kids in the afternoon?
There are many afternoon activities for children and adults throughout Old Town Alexandria hosted by various local retailers and at the Torpedo Factory.
Is this event kid friendly? Where are the children’s activities?
First Night Alexandria is extremely family friendly. No venue is off limits to kids. However, there are some venues that have more activities for kids.
Hooray for Books! (1555 King Street) has ThinkFun games, Curious George and storytelling for children.
The Kids Karnivals are designed with our youngest party animals in mind! A fun experience awaits at 3 neighborhood Recreation Centers and 1 Old Town Church from 6 – 9pm.

What metro station are you close to?
King Street metro on the blue and yellow lines brings you right to the heart of Old Town and all of the First Night venues. Visit WMATA.com for details on Metro for 12/31.
How do I get up and down King Street?
The easiest way to get around to the venues is to walk. Most of Old Town is flat and the total distance from one end to the other is only one mile.
The free King Street Trolley runs from the Waterfront to the King Street Metro, however, it tends to get full quickly and only operates until 10:30 PM.
DASH has several routes that run from the King Street Metro. Please see the DASH website for more schedule information.
Where can I park?
We encourage you to use the City Parking garages and Lots in Old Town where there is flat-rate, pre-paid parking at $5 starting at 5pm. As for street parking, park off King Street and walk a few blocks to get to your destination. Street parking includes metered and timed spaces.
New Year’s Eve, December 31, is not a holiday. Follow the parking restrictions posted so that you don’t get a ticket!
What restaurants/fast-food places are open?
All of Alexandria’s fine restaurants are open on December 31. Most will require a reservation. See a full list of restaurants at Visit Alexandria.
Do you have porta potties?
All of the indoor venues have restrooms that are available to use for First Night ticket holders. There will be porta potties at Waterfront Park for those who come for the fireworks.
What about snow or really bad weather? Can I get a refund?
Admission tickets to First Night Alexandria are non-refundable. The show will go on rain or shine.
The fireworks display will occur on January 1 at 7pm if postponed due to weather at midnight on December 31.
What do you do if it rains?
Bundle up and bring an umbrella. The show goes on regardless of the weather!
Can I bring my lawn chair for the fireworks?
How late will the venues be open?
All venues will be closed by approximately 11:00 pm. Some close earlier. Please refer to the schedule either on the web site or the printed program for specific locations and times.
What time does the event end?
The fireworks end around 12:15 AM and the DJ will stop ‘Rockin’ on the River’ at 1AM.
How do I know where to go and what to see?
The full schedule is posted on the website. When you recieve your admission badge in the mail it will include a printed program. It explains all the entertainment and shows the best places for kids. The footprint of the event is very walkable other than the three Kids Karnivals.
Will there be fireworks this year?
Fireworks can be viewed from along the Potomac Riverfront – the new King Street Park (1 King Street) Waterfront Park (1 Prince Street), Oronoco Bay Park (100 Madison Street), Founder’s Park (400 North Union Street), and the GW Masonic Temple (101 Callahan Drive).
Do I have to pay to see the finale?
All First Night Events after 11:30 pm – music, dancing and fireworks over the river on King Street and at the GW Masonic Temple – are free!
Parking & Transportation
We encourage the use the City of Alexandria garages and lots.
- $5 Flat fee, pre-pay after 5:00PM, available at all 6 City-owned parking facilities.
- Market Square and Union Street Garages will close at 1:00a with parking staff remaining on site until 1:30AM. The Courthouse Garage will close at 3:00AM. Here’s a link to the map of parking locations.
On street parking is available. Please observe posted notices for parking rates and hours. Since December 31 is not a Federal holiday, the restrictions would still be in effect until the posted end time. Download the Parkmobile app in advance for easy payment.
DASH will be running a free Trolley on a continuous loop from the waterfront to the King Street Metro station via Cameron Street, including trips to the Masonic Temple from 6:30 pm until 10:30 pm. The free trolley ends at 10:30 pm. The final Trolley run will leave the Masonic Temple at 11:15PM with one stop at Market Square. Please plan ahead for late evening transportation after the Fireworks. If you plan to ride from the King Street Metro, it is a one (1) mile walk from the waterfront. The fireworks can also be viewed from the Masonic Temple.
